Toxic algae are harmful to us because the kill marine mammals, birds, and sea turtles not to mention fish! Their increase has been linked to environmental pollution, chemicals like pesticides and herbicides draining from our homes and fields into water ways. The increase of these algae actually increase the amount of toxic air we breath. There is nothing beneficial to this algae only increased environmental destruction.
