Organic...what does that mean?


Organic has become a term used for a process on how we grow our food or make products or how we live.  Let's break it down to understand what it means but first here is the definition of organic from the dictionary.  Then below are commonly used labels and definitions.


The literal definition:

          Labels found on food and sometimes personal care.

          95% to 100% organic

          ingredients found in nature


          personal care and cosmetic voluntary label that denotes "made with organic ingredients" meaning 70% or more organic

          identifies food that is at least 95% organic


          1. 100 % organic: products containing only organically produced ingredients, excluding water and salt.
          2. organic: products containing 95% organically produced ingredients by weight, excluding water and salt with remaining ingredients consisting of those products commercially available in organic form.
          3. made with organic ingredients: a product containing more than 70% organic ingredients
          4. natural: means a product does not contain artificial ingredients
          5. products less than 70% organically produced ingredients cannot use the term organic

           

          Some other labels to consider!



          Both Fair Trade labels mean that promotes better trading conditions, sustainability, higher price to producers with social and environmental standards..better labor standards

          to promote responsible management of the world's forests...save a tree

          to promote environmental, social and economic sustainability primarily focusing on the preventing deforestation and environmental destruction

          OMRI about: "The Organic Materials Review Institute (OMRI) is a national nonprofit organization that determines which input products are allowed for use in organic production and processing."
