Some history:
The 4th of July has only been a federal holiday since 1941.
Celebrations date back to the 18th century and the American Revolution (1775-1783).
June 1776 representatives from the 13 colonies fighting in the revolution put in a resolution to declare independence from Great Britain.
July 2nd Continental Congress voted in favor of independence.
Thomas Jefferson drafted the declaration of independence 2 days later.
There is a debate that the Declaration of Independence did not get signed completely until August 2nd! Think about it, there were no planes or automobiles to get every person there in 2 days (July 2nd to July 4th) to sign.
Celebrate the freedoms we enjoy today and huge a soldier, my son says!
Our freedoms have come with a price, they have not been free, they have been paid with the lives of our fathers, brothers, mothers, sisters and our children. May they always be in our hearts, prayers and minds with each decision we make for freedom.
I love History!
